Villa Hvideland is a very special villa in the eco-society Hvideland in Torup near Hundested in northern Zealand, Denmark. The eco-society consist of 45 houses in different shapes and forms, all build by private families, joining the eco-community and according to the strict but very thoughtful eco- and climate-friendly agendas of organic materials throughout the builds with a common wastewater treatment plant and common geothermal heating plant. A community that defies the traditional building norms and seek to innovate and explore all options within circular builds and living.
The common practical eco solutions, work very well alongside the community solutions of being more together outside with smaller builds on smaller sites. A share of nature and common areas, greenhouse solutions, workshops and a communal house.
The house is full of green and eco-friendly solutions and is our project with the lowest LCA to date.
We first met with our client through our common network of friends, and quiet quickly began with meetings and design of the house. The client had already drawn sketches of the exterior look and feel and had of course ideas about the interior as well. We collaborated throughout the whole design of the house until both parties were happy and we could do the final drawings in both 2D and 3D and send in the building application. After receiving the building permit the project could go into the next phase.
With our modular way of thinking and building we planned out the build through our different factory partners as a modular build in 6 modules, but due to different challenges, with mainly one factory being hit by a hacker-attack leaving 8000 workers home for 3 months, we had to go another way with the build, also in order to meet the budget and therefore the client were actually able to build the whole house themselves with help from some carpenters of the community. Even though it was not the ideal solution, we are very happy for the outcome and the good will, spirit and strength of the client, being able to finish the house in quiet a short time; and together we could finalize the documents of the build for the municipality.
