HYLTEBJERG TEMPORARY CHURCH

In march 2022 the old original Hyltebjerg Church in Vanløse, vest of Copenhagen, caught fire and sustained massive damage why the need for a temporary church arose amidst the rebuild and renovation of the old church. Our modular solutions to many ideas, needs and projects seemed to be the right way to go in order to create a temporary church.

We first met with the chairman of the parish council in Vanløse, on the Building Green Fair in Forum Copenhagen in Nov. 2023 looking for a solution to a temporary church. Already drawn and projected by Tegnestuen Svalebæk it was a quick process of combining all forces in order to finish the temporary church as fast as possible yet keeping the aesthetic and practical dreams and needs. From signing the contract in late January 2024 until the church had its first church service in beginning of September 2024 in the new temporary church was a power performance for all involved parties.

The temporary church will now be in service for at least 3-4 years while the delicate restoration of the original church is in progress. For the post re-use of the temporary church, the options will be many. A continued extra space for the church service at Hyltebjerg, a temporary church or maybe a new kindergarten or a common house another place in the municipality or else where in DK. If none of these options will fall into place we will be able to reuse the modules for other builds or maybe even annexes or the alike. Seen as large flexible and transformable "building bricks" the options are almost infinte.
